"LAST WISH"

ONE DAY
WHILE IN COLLEGE
THE STUDENT
TOOK NOTE AND REALIZED
ALL TOO SUDDENLY
HE HAD GROWN UP

TO MUCH DISMAY
THE DAYS OF KITE FLYING
SHOOTING MARBLES
AND PLAYING COWBOY
WERE ALL GONE

NOW, REPLACING THEM,

WAS THE TASK OF CARRYING OUT
RESPONSIBILITIES
NOT REALLY WANTED
BUT DUTIFULLY ASSUMED

AS HE GREW INTO HIS
ELDER YEARS
BOY, STUDENT,SOLDIER,
HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER
NOW WIDOWER

THE WORN OUT OLD MAN
LOOKED BACK ON IT ALL
AND A SMILE CAME
TO HIS FRAILE FACE

ALTHOUGH MANY THINGS
WERE HARD TO DO
AND LIFE WAS NOT
THE PICNIC PLANNED

IT WAS STILL FULL OF MEMORIES
WHICH COULD BE CALLED
"MY OWN"

AND ON THE GRAVESTONE
THEY ETCHED
"SHE LOVED TO LIVE
AND LIVED TO LOVE"
